Getting Our Priorities in Order

prioritiesI urge you to pause and take stock of your life, particularly, your spiritual life. Ask yourself a few basic questions such as:

  • “Is my relationship with the Lord healthy, strong and intimate?”
  • “Am I an effective witness for the Lord?”
  • “Am I growing spiritually?”
  • “Am I fulfilling God’s call on my life?”

Whatever the answer, we should all be striving daily to have a closer walk with Jesus and be more like Him. Learn to know Him in an experiential way and also to be led by the Spirit of God.

Suggestions For Motivating Yourself
I want to encourage and exhort you by sharing some principles that have kept me strengthened in the Lord for 27 years. If you do a little every day to improve yourself, by working daily on your integrity and character, it will build you up, carry you through life and strengthen your self-image.

  1. Purpose to strive for integrity and good character
Purpose in your heart, to apply each and every scripture that the Lord quickens to your heart, don’t just try it for a day or two – do everything in your power to keep up what you have started, remember integrityand good character is what we should strive for.
  2.   Purpose in your heart to pray daily
Purpose in your heart to prayevery day, begin by praying 5 to 15 minutes a day then build on that. Communicate with your heavenly Father in Jesus’ name.  Give Him time to talk to you as you sit still and listen and watch Him transform your life for His glory.
Luke 18:1 – “Also [Jesus] told them a parable to the effect that they ought   always to pray and not to turn coward (faint, lose heart, and give up).” (AMP)Study the three types of prayer in the verse below
Philippians 4:6 – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”
  1. Purpose in your heart to sow kind words to others.
This may seem silly to some but I received this from the Lord over a Christmas period when the lines in stores were very long and much patience was needed. Wherever you go, people’s stress levels are reaching boiling point. Try giving them a genuine smile and a kind wordand watch the reaction. You can change the atmosphere by choosing to act according to the word of God.
Proverbs 15:23 “A man has joy in making an apt answer, and a word spoken at the right moment — how good it is!”

  2. Allow the Lord to minister through you
As you go about your daily life, allow the Lord to minister through you. I have made it a lifestyle to be an effective witness for my Lord and Savior. We ought to be growing in the grace of Christ daily, walking in the freedom that came with our salvation, being an effective witness, being the salt of the earth and letting our light shine in a darkened world. The Apostle Paul says:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for   everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” Romans 1:16

    I Am Not Ashamed
I can honestly say before the Lord, His angels and the Body of Christ that I have never ever been ashamed to share Christ wherever I go, be it a restaurant, a plane, a school, a prison, because my God is not ashamed to be called my God, and Jesus is not ashamed to be called my brother, therefore I am not ashamedof my God.

God is not ashamed to be called their God
“But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed  to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.” Hebrews 11:16

Christ is not ashamed to call us brethren
“For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren” Hebrews 2:11

  1. Meditate in the word of God daily
At twelve days old in the Lord I was baptized into the Holy Spirit and power and was given a word of prophecy as to how I would be used mightily of God and be a witness for Christ. I was unemployed at the time so I was able to isolate myself in my bedroom and read the word, meditated on the word, listened to tapes and prayed, until I could quote whole chapters from the New Testament. I believe meditating on a scripture every day, will help the Christian to grow in leaps and bounds in their service for the Lord.“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.” Psalm 1:1-3

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” 3 John 2

  1. Purpose in your heart to build yourself updaily
Build yourself up by praying in the Holy Spirit daily. This will keep you sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit as well as motivated and alert all day long.“But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit;” Jude 20 (AMP)
  1. Purpose in your heart to be a witness for Christ
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 We have been called to be servants and witnesses for Christ. He redeemed us from the slave market of sin; we do not belong to ourselves, we have been purchased by the blood of the Lamb of God Himself. Now, go and tell others and bring back what rightfully belongs to Him, Hallelujah!“The fruit of the [uncompromisingly] righteous is a tree of life, and he who is wise captures human lives [for God, as a fisher of men — he gathers and receives them for eternity]” Proverbs 11:30 (AMP)

I have purposed in my heart to use every opportunity to be a witness and share the love of Christ with others. We should do this without any hesitation whatsoever, so that one day we will hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Many people ask what Jesus would be saying if He was walking the earth in the flesh today. This answer is very simple, what did He say, when He left the earth over 2,000 years ago?

Hebrews 13:8 Says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” He never changes his mind – whatever he said 2,000 years ago, still stands true today:

  • “Go therefore, and teach all nations”. Matthew 28 18-20
  • “Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every person”. Mark 16:15
  • “You shall be my witnesses to the uttermost part of the earth”.  Acts 1:8
  • “And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations”. Luke 24:47
  1. Purpose to follow and lead like Jesus
The words follow meare mentioned twenty one times in the New Testament and twenty of those are mentioned by Jesus Himself. The word follow in the Discovery Bible is defined as follows, “commitment to a long term way of doing something. A commend to keep on doing an action as one’s general habit or life-style. Repeat each time this situation arises.”The best way to explain this is: wherever you go make sure you are being led and guided by Christ at all times following HimHis ways and His example.

    The apostle Paul Says:
“. . . Become imitators of me, even as I also am an imitator of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1 (Wuest)
Imitate, from the Greek word mimos, means to “mimic” – today we would call it to copycat. This is what the apostle Paul is saying: I make Christ my example, He is my role model in every thing that I do; Follow me as far as I follow Christ, you will not go wrong, you will not blunder, you will not go astray. This is the only safe example and pattern in this life. If you follow this, you can never go astray.

Paul says, “So I beg you to follow my example and do as I do.” 1 Corinthians 4:16 (TLB)

In summary, make the following priorities in your everyday living:

  • Motivate yourself
  • Pray daily
  • Sow kind words to others
  • Allow the Lord to minister through you
  • Meditate in the word daily
  • Pray in the Holy Spirit
  • Be a witness
  • Follow and lead like Jesus

“In order that you may not grow disinterested and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith ( by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises.” Hebrews 6:12 (AMP)

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
