You Must Be Born Again

reconciliationThe New Birth Is A Decisive, Unrepeatable, And Irrevocable Act Of God. This subject is on being born-again, a new creation, born from above, who you are in Christ.

Inner spiritual renewal is a result of the power of God in a person’s life. The phrase new birth or born again comes from the book of John Chapter 3:3,7 where Jesus told Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Jesus meant that all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). That they need to be regenerated — recreated and renewed — by the sovereign activity of God’s Spirit.

How to be Born Again
“Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; 2 this man came to Him (Jesus) by night, and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  6 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 “Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:1-8 (NAS)

Two Births
Every person must have two births if they want to enter the kingdom of heaven. One from earth the other from heaven; one is natural, the other is spiritual: without the first birth they cannot see nor enjoy this world; without being born from above they cannot see nor enjoy the kingdom of God. Just as it is an absolute necessity that a child be born into the world so that he or she may see its light and enjoy its good, so it is an absolute necessity that the spirit of a person must be brought out of its state of darkness and sin through the light and power of the grace of Christ, that it may be able to see and enjoy eternal life.

Once you have made the decision to be born-again – which is to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior – your whole outlook on life changes. You no longer live to please yourself; you no longer live a life of selfishness or greed and wants. You now begin to see life through the eyes of Christ and your desires change – your concern is to please your Lord and Savior. Your desire is now to help others, your future changes as you begin this wonderful journey in this miracle called life eternal or everlasting life.

“Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.” 1 Peter 2:1

The activity of God’s Spirit that regenerates sinful man comes about through faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:10-21). Without faith there is no regeneration, and without regeneration a person does not have eternal life. Regeneration occurs at the moment a person exercises faith in Christ. At that point, he or she is forgiven of their sins, and they are born again by the power of the Holy Spirit working on behalf of Christ. The new birth is a decisive, unrepeatable, and irrevocable act of God.

Similar words are used elsewhere in the Bible to describe the same general concept.

New Creation
The Apostle Paul says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

Literally, the new birth is the greatest miracle on this earth, greater than the blind seeing, the lame walking, or even the dead being raised back to life again.

“Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,   24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, 25 But the word of the LORD endures forever.” 1 Peter 1:23-25

When you are born-again you are not born of the substance of the flesh which is literally decaying or rotting away, (that is what the word “perishable” means) – but you were born of the imperishable, the incorruptible, immortal word of the Lord that abides forever. Hallelujah!

“Wherefore, we are not losing courage. But and if, as is the case, our outward self is progressively decaying, yet our inward self is being changed into a new kind of life [fit for the new spiritual existence into which we have been ushered in salvation, and constantly being conformed to the image of the Lord Jesus]” 2 Corinthians 4:16 (Wuest)

There comes a time in every person’s life when they are presented with the opportunity to receive Jesus as the Lord of their life. On the 27th of May 1980, I was presented with this opportunity and I too, had to make a decision so I share my testimony with you in the hope that it will speak to you and help you in your decision.

My Testimony
“On Tuesday, May 27, 1980 at 12 noon in my kitchen, all on my own, Jesus delivered me of fourteen years of drugs, and twenty years of alcohol – even though I had refused an invitation to accept Him in a church service the night before.

For years I had tried to change my ways, I promised my wife, my children, as well as my family that I would stop drinking and fighting, but nothing I did could make me stop doing what came naturally to me. There was literally a war inside of my head and I could find no rest. I was driven by, what seemed to me, some unseen force. The harder I tried the more useless it was – many times I threw my drugs away, I broke the bottles of liquor I had but the hellish nature remained in me.

I owned seventeen firearms and carried one or two on my person all the time. Eventually I became suicidal as fear would not loosen its grip on me and it seemed the only way out was to take my life. In my desperation I began to cry out to God and say, “If Jesus is your son I want to know Him or I am going to kill myself”.

I will never forget that day. I was all alone in my backyard smoking a joint when for some reason I felt I had to get to my kitchen. As I ran inside the kitchen it seemed as though the sun in its full strength was shining inside of my kitchen.

“Jesus said to me Rejoice for I have delivered you.”

Jesus had come with such a force of love and delivering power that my kitchen was lit up by the glory of His presence. I hit the ground and shook and trembled for hours afterwards. I thought I was going to die at first but there was such a peace that flooded my being that surpassed my understanding. That’s when the Lord spoke to me in an audible voice and said, “Rejoice for I have delivered you.” I remembered the previous night, how the people were raising their hands and worshiping the Lord so I raised my hands in worship and surrender to the only true God of all creation. Three times the Lord said to me, “Rejoice for I have delivered you!” Hallelujah!

That day, the drugs went, the alcohol went, the violence went, the ungodly temper went, including the fear and torment, and most of all, the war that raged in my head stopped, and the tranquil, divine presence of the Prince of Peace came to dwell on the inside of me. Hallelujah! Now 27 years have come and gone and I have been walking in the liberty that Christ gave me in exchange for all the garbage I was carrying around. I can truly say without a shadow of a doubt that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is the Son of God and as John the Baptist said, I now say, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 Jesus Christ of Nazareth delivered me and set me free and when the Son sets you free you are indeed free. (John 8:36). Praise His wonderful name!

Your Decision is Crucial
My prayer for you is that you will make this crucial decision for everlasting life, because that’s literally what it is – whether you accept Christ or reject Him you will live forever – with Him or without Him. The Bible is specific about this subject.

He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5:12

Those who have rejected Christ judge themselves unworthy of everlasting life. Acts 13:46

He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe in the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36

Whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Inviting Jesus Christ into your life will be the most important and powerful act of prayer you will ever make on the earth because once you have left this planet, the Bible says it will be too late to make this decision, and your spirit will not be able to stand in the presence of this Holy God.

In the book of John 3:3 it reads… unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. The word cannot in the Greek means powerless, not possible, may not. You do not have the power to enter the kingdom of God. Please consider this long and hard – you will not be sorry.

Prayer to Ask Jesus into Your Life
“Jesus, I believe that you are the Son of God. I believe that you went to the cross to die for me personally. I repent of my sins I turn from my own ways and I follow you. I receive you as my Lord and my Savior, my deliverer, my healer and my provider. I turn my back on the way I am going and I follow you from this day forward. Thank you Lord, for setting me free in Jesus’ name. Amen”

The Bible says if you confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, that you have now become a new creation in Jesus Christ, you are now born again by the Spirit of God. Read these scriptures below. Let me know if you said this prayer as I would like to send you some literature to help you in your walk with Jesus.

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10

For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” Romans 10:13

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

Read your Bible, a good starting place is the book of John through the book of Revelation.  Find a church to attend where the uncompromised Word of God is taught.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
